How to Start a Push Mower
Possible Reason Your Push Mower Won't Start with Solutions
Introduction
If you have never started a push mower here is some simple instructions. If you can not get your push mower to start. Here is what you check to start your push mower successfully.
If you have never started a push mower before don't worry you will do just fine.
Simple Steps for Starting a Push Mower
Step 1
Look for a cap that says oil. Some push mowers has the oil cap on top of motor. Some oil caps are on the side of motor toward the front on the right side of the lawn mower motor. Some push mower such as the Briggs the oil cap is located toward the back of motor on left side.
Step 2
Unscrew the oil cap. Remember righty tighty Lefty loosie. The cap has a gauge attached to the cap. Which is called a dip stick.
Step 3
Note: Make sure your lawn mower is sitting on level ground. Whip dip stick off with a rag. To check oil level.
Step 4
Screw oil cap back on than back off. Look at the dip stick you should see a full mark. If oil is below the full mark add oil. Note: add just a little oil at a time. Check oil level again by repeating step step 4. Repeat step 4 until the motor oil reaches the full mark.
Step 5
Check gas level. The gas cap on some push mowers are located on top of the motor. Some push mowers the gas cap is located to the right of the motor.
Step 6
Use a funnel or gas nozzle to put gas in lawn mower. Fill lawn mower gas tank until full without over flowing the tank.
Step 7
Now it is time to prime your lawn mower motor. Priming your motor forces gas up to your carburetor. The primer button is a soft mushy button usually on right side of motor. Usually a red or black button. Push in the button 3 or 4 times.
Step 7
Grab handle where you push the mower. You will see a lever. right in front of your hands. Pull the lever toward you and grab the lever with your hand than hold the lever. Note: Hold lever while starting the motor or else it will not start. Do not let go of lever until your done mowing your yard.
Step 8
Reach down and pull upward on your pull cord. Pull the pull cord. If your push mower don't start on the first pull pull again and again. If it still don't start. Push the primer button again once or twice. Pull cord again and again if it don't start. Smell the motor. If there is a strong smell of gas take a ten minute break. Then pull the cord again while holding the lever toward your hands.
Your push mower should start.
